At Christ Church CE Academy, we recognise and believe in the importance of regular physical activity in promoting healthy lifestyles and positive mental well-being, leading to improved academic performance.
Our school aims to inspire all children to develop a love of physical activity and sport. Through good physical education, whole school values and a whole child approach, we aim to nurture confident, resilient children who will strive for their personal best.
We listen to our children wants and needs and provide them with a range of active experiences and clubs. We want to aid our children in obtaining the values and skills to celebrate and respect the success of others, as well as modestly celebrating their own successes.
We aim to ensure that our delivery of physical education allows all children to have the skills and mindset to leave primary school with the capabilities to be successful in their sporting challenges and active lifestyles at secondary school and beyond.
We strive to educate both our children and families to develop a greater understanding on how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices. We are dedicated to ensuring healthy minds, as well as bodies, and will continue to support our children’s well-being.
Achievements
We want our children to achieve by:
- providing opportunities for our children to participate in a range of physical activities,
- challenging their own level of fitness to become physically confident individuals,
- encouraging them to exceed and excel in their own right building on personal goals and achievements through structured learning, extra-curricular activities, competitions and sporting events,
- engaging in activities that promote co-operation and teamwork,
- allowing them to feel safe and show pride in their own achievements and the achievements of others.
Choices
To make children aware they have choices through:
- helping them to manage their own physical development in a way that builds stamina to support their mental health and fitness,
- using and apply the skills they have acquired to participate in activities that spark interest and motivate,
- allowing them to evaluate and reflect on performance to further build on their physical strengths and abilities.
Enjoyment
To enjoy PE our children need:
- physical activities that promote positive interactions,
- to develop resilience and confidence to actively participate in group activities,
- to communicate and work alongside others to develop a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship,
- to develop their own physical strengths and abilities in a safe environment,
- recognise the benefits of physical activity in promoting positive wellbeing and embedding the foundations for healthy, active lifestyles in the future.
