Our RE intent is for our children to be able to make sense of the ‘Big Story’ of the Bible and to understand the impact the Bible has in the lives of Christians. We want our children to make links from what they have learned about the Christianity to other major faiths and non-faiths, connecting their own beliefs and ways of living. Ultimately, experiences in RE will impact on their wider learning and will enable them to make connections for themselves and enrich their lives both now and in the future.
Achievements
We want our children to achieve by learning:
- Christianity as a faith that has shaped British culture and is part of British heritage.
- Christianity as a major faith that is practised around the world.
- The ‘Big Story’ of the Bible as a story of salvation.
- How the Bible guides Christians, within the Christian community and in their individual lives.
- Other major religions and non-religions and their impact on culture and society, communities and individuals.
Choices
To make children aware they have choices by:
- Enabling them to express ideas and insights.
- Using a question based approach to each lesson, to elicit varied responses and promote debate.
- Being given opportunities to discuss different viewpoints on how religions (including Christianity) are lived out in the world, including their own.
Enjoyment
To enjoy RE our children are given opportunities to:
- Explore themes through: Literacy, Art/DT, Music, Drama, Computing and Dance.
- Appreciate visitors and visits within the religious community.
- Connect their own understanding of religions to their own experience in the world, with their own beliefs.
